
Since Robin was a young girl in the 80’s she has a had a strong love of music. At four years old she was already singing and inventing songs on her toy ukulele and little synthesizer. Her parents purchased a piano when Robin was nine years old and she starting improvising on it right away. She started formal lessons at nine years old and began notating her compositions as soon as she could read music. Robin also participated in several choirs as well as musicals and duets.
Robin studied piano and composition with Sharon VanValin in high school. Among the awards Robin won in high school, she won 1st place in Washington State Music Teachers Association for her piece “American Patchwork Quilt”. She also competed in piano performance competitions and continued singing in musical groups.
In 2000, Robin began giving private piano lessons. While attending Bellevue College, Robin studied piano and theory with Donald Denegar, who received his education at Juilliard. At Shasta College she took classes in voice training, and choir from Dr. Elizabeth Waterbury.
While at UC Santa Barbara, Robin studied composition with Joel Feigin (who studied with Roger Sessions) and Jeremy Haladyna (who studied with William Kraft). She also took electronic/ computer music classes from Curtis Roads. Robin graduated with honors from UC Santa Barbara in 2007, receiving a Bachelor of Music with an emphasis in composition.
In 2008, she became the music leader/ director for the contemporary service at First Baptist Church of Redding. Robin then lived in southern CA for over two years. During that time she concentrated on developing her skills as a singer/songwriter and guitarist and also worked as a music director. Robin moved back to Redding in 2011 and taught piano for a while. She currently works as a piano entertainer at Yama Sushi (from 2013 -2020 and 2022 to present).
Robin is available to perform at retirement homes, weddings and special events. She owns a portable Yamaha keyboard and a professional Bose sound system capable of reaching an audience of up to 300 people. She has a vast repertoire of music to play from including classical, jazz, pop, country, movie/TV soundtracks and holiday music as well as her own in the moment improvisations. She is also available for piano and/or composition lessons (for teens and adults).
